Nilufer Örel is a Turkish artist based in Bodrum, Muğla. She took various painting lessons from Seref Bigali. During the period when she lived in Romania for 4 years, she worked with Romanian and French artists at the workshop she established in Bucharest. Since 2019, she has been living in a forest area in Bodrum, Muğla, Türkiye, using solar electricity and direct spring water source and nearby the wildlife as her neighborhood. For the time being she transforms her passion for waves and blue sea, and her never-ending desire for sailing, which she experienced while living on the sea, by blending her own world and nature with different techniques. Nilufer's passion reached her audience throughout several exhibitions such as Bodrum Art fair and Denizbank Art Gallery held in 2023. She exposed her first individual art exposition in Merqezart Bodrum in 2024, titled "Layers of my life".

Artist Statement

Living in nature is not only a way of life for me; it is also the primary source of my artistic practice. The forest that surrounds me today, together with the sea that shaped my past, the wind, animals, and the human inner world, all intertwine within my work. My paintings are not the result of a predetermined plan; they emerge from emotion, intuition, and an inner journey unfolding in the present moment.

By combining acrylics, pastels, charcoal, relief paste, and mixed-media techniques, I allow colors and textures to tell their own stories. The figures, animals, and imaginary characters that frequently appear in my work are not intended to represent specific individuals; rather, they evoke shared human experiences and emotional memory.

My artistic practice focuses on the "now," dissolving the boundary between past and future. I am drawn to the fragility of nature, the cycle of life, belonging, loss, hope, and the relationship between human beings and their environment. In my recent work, the disappearance of habitats, changing ecosystems, and the struggle of living beings to survive have become central themes.

I see my paintings not as explanations, but as invitations. I hope viewers enter the work through their own memories, emotions, and stories, discovering new meanings with every encounter.
